Our Story

Why are we called “The Crossing”?

Several years ago, the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) of South Texas was a rural, agriculture-based economy characterized by sporadic growth. Today, the McAllen-Reynosa Metropolitan Area (often referred to as “Borderplex”) has become a fast growing and dynamic region on the U.S./Mexico Border. Developing first rate-commercial, retail, industrial, medical, retirement, and higher education institutions are transforming the RGV into a major international trade area.

In 2020, a core group was formed with the desire to plant a new gospel-centered church to reach out to a new generation of people who are living and flourishing in an evolving RGV. With the formation of The Crossing, we hope and pray for that desire to become more and more realized. We are a project of the Reach South Texas Church Planting Network, and part of the South Texas Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), alongside three other churches in the area. As the RGV looks toward the future, we also pray that in time, we will help to establish the first Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). As we labor together, we pray that many would cross from not knowing Jesus into the joy of living life with Him!

Church Planter: Pastor Gama Pozos

My name is Elias Gamaliel (Gama) Pozos. In 2014, my family and I moved to the Rio Grande Valley with the desire to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with its people and to make disciples. During these years living in this unique and flourishing region of the country, I have learned to love its people and to enjoy life here. One local billboard puts it in this way: “Life is good in the Rio Grande Valley.”

The gospel of Jesus Christ, presented to us in the pages of the Bible, has and continues to shape the way that I look at life, the world, myself, people, and the challenges that our country and the world experience today. I firmly believe that the life-transforming, joy-producing, hope-giving message of the grace of God through His Son Jesus is what every individual and family in the RGV needs the most! It is my prayer that from the Holy Scriptures, the Crossing will present, explain and live this message in everything it does!
